Solving problems, not reciting code.

CS1 is an introductory course for students interested in using computing to sharpen their problem-solving skills. No prior programming experience is necessary — students use their problem-solving skills to build working programs in Python.

The course is adapted from CSCE 110 — Programming I, taught at Texas A&M University, with materials written by Dr. David Kebo Houngninou. Each week alternates lecture and hands-on practice; since 2026, Fridays are set aside for "solo application" — a day where each student works through their own project.

The 2026 syllabus's stated goal: understand that more than one correct solution exists for a problem — and learn to use generative AI in a computing project.
